Biography
Sofie Thorsbro Dan (she/her) is a violinist, multidisciplinary artist, educator and festival director specialised in contemporary music and performance.
Based in Aarhus (DK) Sofie is an active collaborator with more danish ensembles for new music such as Athelas Sinfonietta and Århus Sinfonietta and is sought after by international contemporary music ensembles for her natural musicality, deep profoundness and complete mastery of her craft.
She stands out as one of the most dedicated violinists in her field and has along the years established more fruitful initiatives and ensembles in the international new music scene such as Black Page Orchestra, Vierhalbiert, Danish New Music Academy and Copenhagen Contemporary Quartet.
Among her recent activities counts tours in South Korea and Taiwan with Curious Chamber Players, and several world premieres for solo violin and hardanger fiddle by composers such as Aya Yoshida, Simon Løffler and Jeppe Ernst.
Sofie is the receiver of the NASOM New Austrian Sound of Music 2018/19 and of The Richard Wagner Scholarship Foundation 2025.

“Simon Løffler and Jeppe Ernst have recently written small works for Thorsbro, linked to her little baby son's critical heart disease a few years ago. Ernst's work to Thorsbro - 10 min. under the title 'Suite A' - was a completely simple, slow violin melody played with his back to the audience interrupted by long sequences where the violinist bowed his head in silence.”
